Nowadays the earning rate is so slow, when I started blogging 3 years back, things were different, there was not much competitions, i do not know how many people currently blogs right now all over the world, but i am sure the number is very high, there are millions of blogs out there, and most of them are actually trying to make money, so now things are not easy, if you want to make money with your blog, you are going to face a tough competition, even now a days Google has revised there PR policy that is why it is tough to maintain a good PR.

You can write reviews and earn money.
There are 100s of ways of making money with your blog, but trust me, rather than going for those pennies, go for the big ones, try to build up the reputation first, provide quality posts, which will give people some knowledge, rather than copy and paste, write of your own, try to get good PR and traffic, remember traffic is the king, if your blog is having enough traffic, you will have enough money earned with your blog.
